The Basics
Open Mics are 7-9, on Sundays, at One North in Lansing. No experience is needed, but you must be willing to follow the rules. There are no guarantees, but you'll probably be given at least seven minutes on one of our May shows. Submissions for May are currently being accepted and lineups will be announced on April 28th.
Who Does Open Mics?
Some people want to see what it's like to tell jokes from a stage. Some comedians want to try working different types of audiences, or try out new jokes, or introduce themselves to a new geographical location, or to simply have fun. There are many reasons, but the low-pressure environment makes it a lot of fun.
Three Sparks Comedy will not tolerate judgment or negativity towards anyone trying out comedy or trying out new jokes. This is a safe place.

Open Mic Rules
Please follow these rules to participate.
- Arrive 15 minutes early and let the host know you've arrived. (unless prior arrangements have been made)
- Support the other comedians.
- Do not spread negativity about the Three Sparks brand, the venue, the bookers, or the other comedians while in the building or on social media.
- This is a mature environment, but please don't get too vulgar. For example, you can drop the F word a couple of times, and lesser words, but don't go further then that. You can talk about race, but don't use racial slurs. You can talk about sex, but don't go into graphic descriptions. You can talk politics, but don't leave 50% of the crowd insulted when you're finished. You can talk about religion, but don't trash one faith tradition. Hopefully, you can see the pattern. If you have a joke that you're not sure about then ask us before the show.
- We use a digital countdown timer that only you can see. When the timer hits zero, feel free to finish your current joke, but don't start a new one.
- If something comes up, and you can't make it, please let us know as soon as possible.
